Workshop Detail Falmouth, MA Trauma, Consciousness and the Body: New Approaches to the Treatment of Childhood Trauma AUGUST 4, 2008 - AUGUST 8, 2008 Workshop Part of the Harvard Medical School Summer Seminar Series: In this workshop, we will explore the clinical implications of recent developments in the neuroscience and attachment research and the advent of neurobiologically-informed treatment techniques that offer some hopeful answers to the puzzling and frustrating challenges of treating traumatized individuals. When trauma symptoms are "decoded" using a neurobiological lens, even the most self-destructive, therapy-destructive, and overwhelming symptoms become more understandable and manageable. Drawing from the spheres of psychodynamic psychotherapy, neuroscience and attachment research, as well as EMDR and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, this workshop will use a combination of lecture, demonstration, video, and experiential exercises to explore: " A neurobiological approach to understanding the impact of trauma on mind, body and attachment behavior " A "treatment prescription" for trauma: how to choose the most effective techniques for stabilizing clients, resolving traumatic memory, and restoring functioning and well-being " Somatic interventions that address the effects of trauma and attachment failure on mind and body " How to work with the secondary symptoms of trauma: eating disorders, self-harm and suicidality, addictive disorders, and dissociative phenomena " Applications of these treatment principles to psychodynamic, cognitive-behavior, psychopharmacological, and EMDR treatments Contact the Harvard Medical School CME office at 617-384-8600.
